Experiential Learning
What is 'Experiential learning'?
Experiential learning is learning in it's purest form and may include learning in unfamiliar environments such as our mountain location (see picture).
The learning cycle holds that there are four stages to learning:
1. Actual experience
4. Deliberate testing 2. Observation and reflection
3. Rule forming
Sometimes with traditional training methods, the cycle can become confused or even have sections left out, damaging the learning process.
Our experiential learning puts the learner in a situation where all four stages have to be carried out. First we place delegates into situations where they have real experiences relating to their teamwork (whether as part of their actual team or a 'new' team consisting of other delegates). This may be a seemingly straightforward task such as getting from A to B in a certain time. Once the task is completed we draw out each others observations and provide some time for the team to reflect on their performance. Usually, the team start to then form 'rules' about how the task (or a similar one) could be better achieved. We then put this to the test and so the cycle goes on.
At all times we are on hand to observe and provide guidance if necessary, though it is often when mistakes are made that the greatest learning takes place.
At the end of each day (or even each task if we deem it necessary), we gather for an honest appraisal. This is often where teams stagnate as they have not reached a stage of being able to point out errors and look for solutions in case individual members are criticised. If required, we will encourage the team members to be honest with each other and actively question about individual performances. As with any criticism, there is no benefit unless solutions are identified and acted on. Learning logs are always completed and we provide follow up review sessions where this can not be carried out in-house.
Where is this carried out?
We have access to a fully equipped business centre set in the Italian maritime Alps and only 20 minutes from the Riviera coastline.
Using this superb setting we put our delegates through a variety of challenges designed to create a constructive team exercise. The challenges can be as hard and complex or as easy and simple as required and we will NEVER just run an off the peg programme or a mini "holiday".
Typically given the location we request that clients are with us for a minimum three full days as this allows us to fully utilise the terrain around the centre. The centre is located within a fully modernised Italian mountain village, complete with rental accommodation of the highest standard, including a superb swimming pool and full internet capability.
What does it cost?
Costs for this incredible teamwork experience are flexible, being based on (but not limited to) the number of days required, standard of accomodation, travel arrangements, range of exercises required, team numbers etc.
Following discussions with you, we will outline a plan for you to consider including all relevant costs. This plan is produced at zero cost to yourselves and in no way commits you to the action outlined.
Once the action plan is agreed, we decide on a schedule and make any necessary location bookings. At this point we are committed to you and you to us.
